Grand Canyon Camp Chair
The Grand Canyon Camp Chair is a durable, collapsible camp chair with a long history among river runners. My dad and I have built and used versions of these chairs on several river trips through the Grand Canyon. Along the way, we noticed that they can be surprisingly hard to find unless you’re willing to build one yourself.
We decided to refine the design with an emphasis on strength, comfort, and simplicity, creating a chair that we’re proud to offer to fellow river runners and outdoor folks.
Each chair is by hand in our small woodshop. We take the time to carefully select the materials, fit and assemble each frame, and finish every chair individually. We’re not a large production shop—we build these chairs the same way we build our furniture: with attention to detail, quality materials, and pride in the finished piece.
The Grand Canyon Camp Chair is equally at home on a river trip, at the beach, around a campfire, or anywhere you want a comfortable, pack-able chair that is built to last. It folds down for transport and is designed for years of regular outdoor use.
Built for the Outdoors
We build our chairs from solid hardwoods, including Locust, White Oak, and Apricot. The frames are glued and screwed together for strength and longevity. We use Titebond® III wood glue, which offers excellent resistance to water exposure, and all hardware is 316 stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance. Once assembled, each frame is carefully sanded and finished with Cutek® Extreme, a penetrating oil finish designed to help protect and preserve the wood while allowing its natural character to show through.
Outdoor-Grade Fabric
The chair backs are made from durable outdoor upholstery and awning fabrics. Fabric specifications vary by design, allowing us to offer a range of colors and patterns while maintaining the durability needed for outdoor use.
Care Guide
The Grand Canyon Camp Chair is built for years of outdoor use, but a little extra care will help it last even longer.
Avoid prolonged exposure to water and UV light. Store out of the elements. For best protection, wood finish should be applied annually or biannually depending on use. We use Cutek Extreme at the shop and recommend this product for future applications. Avoid dragging or " scooching" the chair across hard or rough surfaces. This may lead to cracking or splitting in the legs.
